Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to describe the process of building a water clock, but it fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The instructions are presented as a list of disjointed phrases rather than a cohesive description of the stages. The explanation of the mechanism is confusing and lacks the necessary detail to explain how the water clock actually functions. While the response mentions the seven stages, it does not explain the relationship between the components effectively. The content is repetitive and lacks the analytical tone required for an academic report. To improve, focus on clearly describing the sequence of events and the purpose of each component in the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical organization and progression. It is written in a stream-of-consciousness style with very little paragraphing or effective use of cohesive devices. Sentences are poorly linked, making it difficult for the reader to follow the process. There is a lack of transition words or logical connectors to guide the reader through the stages of the diagram. The text feels like a series of fragmented notes rather than a structured report. To improve, use clear paragraphing to separate the introduction, the main body of the process, and the conclusion, and employ linking words like 'firstly', 'subsequently', and 'finally' to connect ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is extremely limited and repetitive. There are significant issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'making water for the clock water' and 'small holey'. The student relies on basic, often incorrect, terminology to describe the process. There is no attempt to use academic or technical vocabulary appropriate for describing a mechanical process. Many phrases are grammatically awkward, which further hinders the clarity of the vocabulary used. To improve, focus on learning specific vocabulary related to processes, such as 'mechanism', 'components', 'flow', 'constant', and 'sequence', and practice using these in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent and severe grammatical errors that impede communication. There are persistent issues with sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and the use of articles and prepositions (e.g., 'This Diagram Illustrates to the process to the making water'). Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, lacking proper punctuation. There is almost no evidence of complex sentence structures, and the basic sentences are often constructed incorrectly. The lack of control over basic grammar makes the text very difficult to read and understand. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex structures.
