HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN WATER CLOCK

HOW TO BUILD YOUR OWN WATER CLOCK

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The following given chart is being used to describe the formation of own mechanism ,which gives the clear concept and best approach to form a uniform and flexible system. The system consists of different predefined steps and stages which needs to be followed in order to make a feasible and best possible system.in order to build the water based mechanism to make a clock ,we need to different apparatuses which includes the tap, straw ,glue, plastic bottle ,stand and tape. The process will begin with the tap and which follows the water to proceed to go to the plastic bottle. The basic concept of filling the water and open it further to keep the level constant is based on how the same nature of material takes different time. if the process is followed for several attempts ,it would be clear enough to understand the things and resistance involves in the process.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to adequately describe the process shown in the diagram. Instead of detailing the stages of building the water clock, the text provides vague, philosophical commentary about 'uniform and flexible systems' and 'nature of material'. It fails to identify the specific steps or the relationship between the components (e.g., the bottle, the straw, and the water level). The instructions require a clear, step-by-step description of the process, but the student provides a general summary that does not explain how the clock actually functions. Consequently, the response does not cover the key features of the diagram, resulting in a low score for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is written as a single, dense paragraph, which lacks logical progression. While there are some attempts at linking ideas, such as 'in order to' and 'the process will begin with', the connections are often mechanical or confusing. The lack of clear paragraphing makes it difficult for the reader to follow the sequence of the process. Furthermore, the referencing is unclear; for instance, the phrase 'open it further' is ambiguous as it is not clear what 'it' refers to. The overall structure is disjointed and does not facilitate a smooth flow of information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often used inaccurately. Phrases like 'formation of own mechanism' and 'water based mechanism' are awkward and do not reflect the technical precision required for a process description. There is a reliance on repetitive and basic terminology. Some words are used incorrectly in context, such as 'apparatuses' (which is rarely used in this plural form) and 'resistance involves in the process'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the technical steps of the diagram effectively, and the lack of precision hinders the clarity of the explanation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the tap', 'the straw'), subject-verb agreement ('which needs to be followed'), and sentence structure. For example, the sentence 'The process will begin with the tap and which follows the water to proceed to go to the plastic bottle' is syntactically flawed and confusing. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and commas. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple or poorly constructed complex sentences, and the high frequency of errors is a significant concern.
