Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the process of building a water clock, but it fails to clearly outline the sequential stages of the diagram. While the overall purpose is identified, the description of the steps is confusing and lacks precision. For instance, the explanation of the straw attachment and the use of the finger is difficult to follow, and the description of the measurement process is vague. The response lacks a clear overview of the mechanism, and the details provided do not accurately reflect the visual information, leading to a lack of clarity for the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Moving to remaining data' and 'looking at first step', which do not flow naturally. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to track the stages of the process. While there is an attempt to structure the response, the lack of logical transitions and the repetitive nature of the sentences hinder the overall coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'process', 'making', and 'water'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'to stable it on handle' and 'after repeation of process'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe a technical process with precision. To improve, the student should focus on using more specific verbs and nouns related to technical diagrams and processes, and work on improving collocation and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('making water clock'), incorrect verb forms ('it is cover'), and awkward sentence structures. There is a lack of control over complex sentence forms, and many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction significantly impacts the readability of the text.
