Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the subject as a water clock and include several stages, including turning on the tap, covering the hole, filling the bottle, removing the finger and repeating the process. However, the report is very brief and gives only a minimal account of the diagram. It omits key construction details, such as the upper bottle being fixed to a stand, the straw acting as an overflow drain, and water dripping into the lower bottle where calibration marks are made. Some steps are also unclear, particularly “when it comes to a constant level” and “measure the levels per minute.” The response is 72 words below the required minimum, which limits how fully the process can be described. Add an overview and explain both the apparatus and the stages in order.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The stages are presented broadly in sequence, and phrases such as “First of all,” “then,” and “At the final stage” help the reader recognise a process. This gives the response some organisation. However, nearly all the information is compressed into one long sentence, with weak or missing punctuation and abrupt transitions. For example, “then,Next filled filled” makes the sequence difficult to follow, while “when its is completed” has an unclear reference. Separate the report into an introduction, an overview, and a clearly ordered description of the stages. Use linking expressions selectively and make sure each sentence connects one step to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses a small set of relevant process words, including “stage,” “tap,” “bottle,” “finger,” and “repeat,” so the basic topic can be recognised. However, the vocabulary is limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning less clear. “Gap” is imprecise for the hole at the bottle’s base, and “levels per minute” does not clearly describe the calibration marks. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “constatnt,” “lebels,” and “Ater,” alongside repetition such as “filled filled.” Use more precise terms from the diagram, such as “opening,” “overflow straw,” “water level,” and “mark calibration lines,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe a sequence using time clauses, as in “when it comes to a constant level,” but most of the writing relies on a single, loosely connected sentence. Frequent errors in verb forms and sentence construction make parts difficult to understand: “Next filled filled” lacks a clear subject and correct verb form, while “when its is completed” combines incompatible forms. Punctuation is also weak, with several steps joined without full stops, and “First of all,we” lacks a space after the comma. Use short, complete sentences with a consistent present simple, for example, “First, turn on the tap. Next, cover the hole with a finger.” Then add a few accurate clauses to explain what happens.
