Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the diagram as a water-clock process and give a broad overview that it starts with preparation and ends with using the clock. You also mention relevant components, including bottles, a stand, tape and a straw, and refer to filling, marking levels and repeating the process. However, the stages are only partly and sometimes inaccurately described. For example, the upper bottle is filled until water overflows, then the finger is removed from its base hole; the response instead says to cover the hole while filling and gives an unclear account of when the water level is constant. The purpose of the straw as an overflow outlet and the calibration of the lower bottle also need clearer explanation. A more complete, accurate account of the sequence would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, an overview and two body paragraphs, and it attempts to guide the reader with sequence markers such as “Firstly,” “While” and “Moving to.” These features provide some organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because stages are combined or presented out of order, and several links between ideas are unclear. For instance, “While the level near to constant move the finger away” does not clearly show how the filling and release steps relate, while the second paragraph shifts from the straw to the lower bottle without a clear transition. Organise the report in the diagram’s sequence, using one paragraph for construction and another for operation, and use linking phrases to show each step precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant process vocabulary, including “attach,” “stand,” “straw,” “level” and “timing,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. Phrases such as “system of creating,” “can not handle that things” and “real time things” are not natural or precise in this context; “water-clock mechanism,” “the water reaches a steady level” and “items to be timed” would communicate the ideas more clearly. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “fiil” and “lelvels.” Aim for accurate process vocabulary and check spelling, while avoiding vague expressions such as “things.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using forms such as “when” and “while” to connect stages. However, errors are frequent, and some sentences are difficult to interpret. For example, “starting the procedure need two plastic bottle” lacks a clear subject and has problems with agreement and articles; “when water come out need to cover the down hole” also omits necessary subjects and uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “While the level near to constant” has an incomplete clause, and punctuation around the long sentences is inconsistent. Practise writing complete instructions in the passive or with clear subjects—for example, “The upper bottle is filled until water overflows”—and check verb agreement, articles and sentence boundaries.
