Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response identifies the diagram as a seven-step process and mentions several relevant components, including the tap, bottles, straw, stand, and the final instruction to repeat the process. However, the stages are only partly described and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the first step is not simply to take water from the tap and store it: the tap is turned on, the hole is covered, and the upper bottle is filled until water overflows through the straw. The response also says the lower container is a “glass container,” whereas the diagram labels it as a plastic bottle with its neck cut off. Explain the sequence more fully and give a clear overview of how the apparatus measures time.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: the response begins with an introduction and overview, then moves to details about the apparatus and later stages. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several stages are combined in one paragraph, and the account jumps from the “first step” to the “next sixth step” without explaining the intervening stages. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore” are used, but they connect details rather than clarify the sequence. The overview also repeats the idea that the process is repeated. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the ordered stages, and guide the reader with clear sequence markers such as “first,” “next,” and “finally.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant process vocabulary, including “straw,” “hole,” “stand,” “tape,” and “repeat,” so the basic subject is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the description unclear, such as “water clock is made by the completion of proces,” “direct tab,” and “a glass container.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “envolved,” “initiall,” and “complte.” Use precise terms from the diagram, especially “tap,” “upper plastic bottle,” and “lower bottle with its neck cut off,” and choose natural process language such as “is attached,” “overflows,” and “is marked.” Proofreading spelling and collocations would make the information easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts longer sentences and uses some sequencing language, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors occur in basic sentence patterns and agreement, for example, “there are total seven steps are envolved” and “water level is keep only at the straw level.” The opening phrase “illustrates that how water clock is made” also has an incorrect clause structure and missing articles. Several sentences join multiple actions without clear grammatical links, as in the description beginning “In first step, take water…” This makes the sequence harder to follow. Practise accurate passive forms for process descriptions, such as “the bottle is attached” and “the hole is covered,” alongside simple present-tense sentences. Check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries when editing.
