Student answer (Band 5.5)
it very difficult for people over the age of 50 to get good jobs, despite their experience. we should give jobs to a person who is over the age of 50 because he is more experience person than a younger person he know to perform task well he is more experienced person who can run your company in best way by using his life experience. That's why we should give jobs to those people over the age of 50. According to my knowledge there are equal rights to all people to have a job, age does not matter.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response is significantly under-length at only 98 words, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the student identifies that older workers have experience, the response fails to explore the 'causes' of the problem or suggest 'measures' to solve it, as explicitly requested by the prompt. The ideas are highly repetitive and lack the necessary development, evidence, or examples required for an academic essay. To improve, the student must expand on specific reasons for ageism (e.g., technological changes, salary expectations) and propose concrete solutions (e.g., government policies, retraining programs) while ensuring the essay meets the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks paragraphing and a clear structure. There is no introduction, body, or conclusion, which makes the progression of ideas difficult to follow. Cohesive devices are almost entirely absent; the text consists of a series of loosely connected sentences rather than a cohesive argument. The lack of transition words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'however') makes the writing feel disjointed. To improve, the student should organize their thoughts into distinct paragraphs—one for causes and one for solutions—and use linking words to connect their arguments logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. Phrases such as 'give jobs' and 'more experience person' are used multiple times, indicating a limited range of expression. There is no attempt to use less common or academic vocabulary suitable for an IELTS Task 2 essay. The word choice is functional but lacks the precision and variety expected at higher bands. To improve, the student should focus on learning synonyms for common words and incorporating topic-specific vocabulary related to employment, such as 'recruitment', 'age discrimination', 'professional expertise', and 'workforce development'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede clarity. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'he know to perform'), article usage, and sentence structure (e.g., run-on sentences and missing punctuation). The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures, which are necessary for a higher band score. To improve, the student needs to work on basic sentence construction, ensuring that each sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice using complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions.
