Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes (age discrimination, technology, and physical demands) and solutions (government policies and anti-discrimination laws). However, the development is somewhat limited. The ideas are presented in a repetitive manner, particularly regarding the perceived inability of older workers to learn technology. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or evidence to support your claims rather than relying on generalizations. The position is clear, but the depth of analysis is insufficient for a higher score, as the arguments remain at a surface level throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the progression of ideas is often mechanical. There is an over-reliance on simple cohesive devices, and some transitions are awkward or missing, such as the abrupt start to the third paragraph ('Several measures issue to solve the problems'). Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disrupted by grammatical errors. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') would improve the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms like 'good', 'problem', and 'things' repeatedly. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'good year of experience' (should be 'years of experience') and 'the person who adapts the things fast' (should be 'adapts quickly'). While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the presence of errors in word formation prevent a higher score. You should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the people above 50 age faces'), article usage, and sentence fragments. Some sentences are poorly constructed, which occasionally forces the reader to re-read to understand the intended meaning. While you attempt complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your verb tenses and pluralization are consistent throughout the text.
