Student answer (Band 6.5)
In certain countries, individuals above the age of 50 are facing issues in getting a job even though they have a good experience. This essay will discuss the main cause of the problems and possible solutions to prevent it.
Mostly in the Information technology sector, employers are hiring the young people. However in the same industry the layoffs are also happening. In the job market only 4 to 12 years of experienced people has lot of opportunities. Above 12 years of experience are having very less openings. Instead of hiring a senior candidate, the recuirters hire 2 skilled person with that same package. For instance, during Covid period, mostly many of the managers are fired due to their higher salary. This happens when down sizing the people and cost cutting.
The manager level candidates should not only rely only on people and project management. They need to do stay upto date on the skills and according to that they can do a Proof Of Concept. They can show off this to their upcomming clients. This will help to get some new projects for the company and they can stay safely in their particular job. For example, one of my manager by using his own contacts and network got an job in a major MNC company.
Overall, layoff are happening for all the role level candidates but mostly 50 plus aged people are getting affected. This can be avoided by staying in the current trends and showing their impact to the employer.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding why older workers are bypassed—focusing on salary costs and the preference for younger, cheaper staff—is relevant but could be expanded with more depth. The solutions provided, such as staying up-to-date with skills and networking, are practical but lack detailed elaboration. The response is quite brief, and while it meets the minimum length, the arguments feel slightly underdeveloped, preventing a higher score. To improve, you should provide more specific examples or explore the societal implications of this issue to create a more comprehensive argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a logical flow from the problem (causes) to the potential solutions. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'Mostly in the Information technology sector' and 'For instance' are used, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall flow. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the discussion of layoffs and the suggestion for managers to update their skills. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'very less openings' (should be 'fewer openings'), 'recuirters' (spelling error), and 'upcomming' (spelling error). The essay relies on relatively simple vocabulary, and there is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary related to the labor market and professional development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'mostly many of the managers are fired' (redundant 'mostly'), 'one of my manager' (should be 'managers'), and 'got an job' (should be 'a job'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of English syntax. Focusing on sentence variety and reducing basic errors will help improve this score.
