Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and solutions), but the development is limited. The ideas regarding causes, such as 'expensiveness' and 'health issues', are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with depth. The solutions provided, such as 'free jobs' like gardening, are somewhat simplistic and lack a broader socio-economic perspective. While the position is clear, the arguments remain superficial, and the response relies on generalisations rather than well-developed points. To improve, you should expand on why ageism exists in the workplace and provide more sophisticated, realistic policy-based solutions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However'). There are issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the run-on sentence 'If they can’t get a job,how they can survive there are some causes of this issue.' Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between ideas is occasionally disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically connects to the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. Phrases like '50 cohorts', 'decent jobs for their living', and 'expensiveness' are either non-standard or awkward in an academic context. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and the attempt to use more complex terms is often unsuccessful, leading to errors in collocation. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary that is appropriate for an academic essay, focusing on precise terms related to employment, social welfare, and economic challenges.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'if a citizen are disabled'), article usage, and punctuation (e.g., missing spaces after commas and periods). The sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For instance, 'how they can even survive without doing any job, authorities have to take action' is a comma splice. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and improving punctuation before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
