Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the preference for younger workers due to technological adaptability and the issue of employee turnover. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the example regarding Japan is specific, the discussion on solutions, such as reserving seats for older workers, is a bit simplistic and lacks depth. The position is clear throughout, but the argument could be strengthened by exploring the economic or social implications more thoroughly. Overall, it meets the requirements of the task well enough to be considered a solid attempt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a logical progression of ideas from the introduction to the causes, solutions, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural (e.g., 'In this contemporary era'). Referencing is generally clear, although some sentences are slightly disjointed, which occasionally affects the flow of the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era', 'incentives', and 'freelancer'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'trouble ate time', 'appreciating number of experience', and 'money less'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the writing. A wider range of collocations and more accurate word choices would be needed to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms, prepositions, and sentence construction (e.g., 'if companies not show interest', 'suffer form lack of experience', 'to gave them less stress'). Punctuation is also inconsistent in places. While the errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitive versus past tense forms after 'to'.
