Student answer (Band 5.0)

In some countries , it can be very difficult for people to get good jobs after the age of 50 . It is very hard to find good job in old age despite experience in some places is because of more leaves . Because old people has more chances of getting a disease than young people . That is why most companies prefer young peoples . And companies and managers want work to end swiftly and old people are usually slow . And they get tired very easily and cannot do the hard work .

The number one company that do not prefer old people is airlines . In the airlines we mostly see young air hostesses because they have to serve food . And meet to the passengers need immediately and old woman is not that fast . And in airlines at the time of emergency even small decision of the flight attendant can save a life that is why airlines prefer young people .

And in the fields of army and police young people are required because in the battle field soldiers need to fight and protect their motherland . And in police you have fight and caught the criminals which could be life threatening for old people . And in the field of teaching most of the time young people are preferred because young teachers connect with the students more easily .

What measures could be taken to solve this problem is to give pension to the people after retirement so they do not have to work .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt (causes and solutions), but the development is quite limited. The causes are presented as a list of generalizations, such as 'old people has more chances of getting a disease' or 'old people are usually slow,' which lack depth and nuance. The proposed solution is also very brief, suggesting only pensions as a remedy. To improve, you should provide more sophisticated reasoning and explore broader societal or economic factors. The ideas are somewhat repetitive and rely on stereotypes rather than a balanced analysis of the employment landscape for older workers.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive. Many sentences start with 'And' or 'Because,' which creates a choppy flow. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within and between paragraphs. For example, the transition between the discussion of airlines and the army is abrupt. To achieve a higher band, you should use a wider variety of transition signals (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' 'in contrast') to improve the logical flow of your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple adjectives like 'good,' 'young,' and 'old.' There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'more leaves' (likely meaning sick leave) and 'meet to the passengers need.' The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas about the labor market or age discrimination. To improve, you should focus on learning topic-specific collocations related to employment, such as 'age discrimination,' 'workforce participation,' or 'professional experience,' and avoid repeating the same simple words throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('old people has,' 'companies that do not prefer'), article usage ('in the fields of army'), and sentence fragments. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they are often inaccurate. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Additionally, try to combine simple sentences using subordinating conjunctions to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
