Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt—causes and solutions—but the development is superficial. While you identify ageism and perceived slowness as causes, and suggest encouragement as a solution, the ideas lack depth and specific examples. The argument is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, structured progression. To improve, you should aim to expand on your points with concrete examples, such as how specific industries might benefit from older workers' mentorship, or how government policies could incentivize hiring older staff. The position is clear, but the lack of detailed support limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and often inaccurate (e.g., 'the main thing is that', 'the steps to be taken to cope with this cause is it'). Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling that occasionally impede communication. For example, 'there' is consistently used instead of 'their', and 'experiance' is misspelled throughout. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle to use less common items accurately. To improve, focus on mastering basic spelling and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary related to employment, such as 'recruitment', 'professional development', 'mentorship', and 'age discrimination'. Using more precise terminology will help convey your ideas more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, punctuation, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, such as 'the main thing is that the older the people get the genuine and authentic experiance there have'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay close attention to the difference between 'there', 'their', and 'they're'.
