Student answer (Band 5.5)

In some countries people over the age of 50 face difficulty in finding jobs despite having experience. This is the major problem that most of the countries face. In our country it is also common.

That problem is now increasing because of multiple reasons. Today the major cause of not having jobs for old people is difference of educational level . Because I think that today companies prefer young men who are qualified in modern education. Because today the education level is grown up. Old men over 50 are not fully known to this modern knowledge. Secondly I think that today institutes have job vacancies for young and energetic people. They need those people who can work more in less time. So that is why they do not take older people. The last cause I think it is also a fault of our government because authorities should offer jobs for old people because these are also part of our country.

I think that by following these measurements there can be improvement. First of all I suggest that our system should provide opportunities for old people because they also have to fulfil their needs. And secondly I think that we should gain advantage by their experience because an experienced man is more valuable than freshly qualified one. He have multiple solutions of a problem and can handle any situation very well.

In last I want to say that old people are golden asset of our county. We should pay heed towards them, because they have more experience of this world than us. I know this is the era of modern technology but we are nothing without our basics.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and solutions. However, the development of ideas is limited. The causes, such as 'difference of educational level' and 'energetic people', are mentioned but lack depth or specific examples. The solutions are also somewhat generic, relying on general statements rather than concrete measures. The position is clear, but the arguments would benefit from more detailed explanation and evidence to reach a higher band. The response is somewhat repetitive in its structure and lacks a sophisticated exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic and sometimes repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'I think' and 'today'. The transition between ideas is often mechanical. For instance, the move from causes to solutions is abrupt. While there is an overall progression, the lack of varied linking words and the somewhat simplistic sentence structure hinder the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. The student relies on simple, repetitive phrasing like 'old people', 'modern knowledge', and 'good jobs'. There are some inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'education level is grown up' instead of 'educational standards have risen'. To improve, the student should aim for more academic and precise terminology to express complex ideas, moving away from conversational or overly simplistic language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'difference of educational level' (missing article), 'Old men over 50 are not fully known to this modern knowledge' (incorrect preposition/passive usage), and 'He have multiple solutions' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
