Student answer (Band 6.0)
In many countries, in spite of having a very worthy experience, elder citizens find it very difficult to secure a good job. Constantly changing work dynamics and the unstable economy are one of the biggest reasons creating this problem and it can be resolved by taking measures by the government as well as the individuals themselves.
This is mainly due to the fact that work dynamics are constantly changing over a last couple of years and the elderly citizens often cannot makeup with the changes in the industry as good as youngsters. Also, the economic markets have been unstable for the last few years, which has slowed down the hiring process. So, the companies usually prefer to hire individuals with less experience but more energy so that they can get more work done with less workforce. For instance, when a company has a need of hiring an individual, it usually looks for cheaper options with more knowledge of the changing trends in market and these needs are better fulfilled by any youngster than a senior citizen.
Different measures can be taken to resolve this issue on the individual as well as the state level. On the individual level, it is essential for the senior individuals to keep themselves updated with the changes in the industry. Similarly, on the state level, it should be made compulsory for every hiring company to attribute a certain number of seats to people above 50. For example, if a company is bound to hire people of every age group, it will create a competing environment and ultimately, the company will benefit from it too.
Finally, as the industry is changing rapidly, so it is important for the senior citizens to enhance their skills. Also, different measures should be taken by the government too, which would create more opportunities for these experienced individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the rapid pace of technological change and the economic preference for younger, cheaper labor. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion that governments should mandate hiring quotas for people over 50 is an interesting idea, but it lacks a deeper exploration of the potential economic consequences or practical implementation challenges. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could be extended with more specific evidence or nuanced analysis to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Similarly', and 'Finally' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, though the final paragraph is quite brief and feels somewhat redundant, as it repeats points already made in the body. Referencing is generally clear, and the reader can easily follow the writer's line of reasoning throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication. The writer uses some topic-specific terms like 'work dynamics', 'hiring process', and 'competing environment'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'makeup with the changes' (should be 'keep up with') and 'worthy experience' (which is slightly unnatural; 'extensive' or 'valuable' would be better). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. The repetition of 'individuals' and 'citizens' also limits the lexical variety.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and the meaning is never obscured by errors. However, there are several minor grammatical slips, such as 'are one of the biggest reasons' (should be 'is one of the biggest reasons' to agree with 'one') and 'over a last couple of years' (should be 'over the last couple of years'). While the writer attempts complex sentences, the control is not entirely consistent. Punctuation is generally accurate, but the overall range of complex structures is somewhat limited, preventing a higher score in this criterion.
