Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries, elderly people getting a stable job is often a pressing issue. The priority for younger workers and energy-related concerns of older individuals are the possible causes despite their expertise. A regular training sessions with follow-ups and introducing strict laws by the officials will culminate the issue.

The root cause of the issue is employing younger adults in place of older ones. This is attributed to their adaptive nature to new technology and modern working methods. For instance, younger people are more convenient to work on computers with vast knowledge about them while, older adults often find it difficult to work with new and sophisticated software. Furthermore, companies are concerned about the energy and ability of elderly population and their health concerns. They believe they are not productive enough in terms of achieving targets as competitive as youngsters. Therefore, problems regarding employment of above 50 individuals are often concerning despite their vast experience.

To tackle this issue, the governments should introduce strict legal regulations in order to employ them. To illustrate this, a rule to provide employment based on experience, skills and knowledge rather than age will possibly eliminate the issue to some extent. Moreover, the companies should offer regular training to elders who lack enough knowledge regarding new systems thus, they can learn and perform like expert youngsters. Subsequently, the organizations should conduct regular health check-ups to maintain the overall health integrity of its employees.

In conclusion, despite the experience most of the older adults are unemployed due to their health concerns and increased preference to the new comers while some suitable legal rules and training programs will help to culminate the issue in the near future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: causes and solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the preference for younger workers due to technological adaptability and health concerns. The solutions, including legal regulations and training, are also pertinent. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the suggestion of 'strict legal regulations' is mentioned but not fully explained in terms of how it would practically function. The essay maintains a clear position throughout, but some points, particularly the link between health check-ups and employment, could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. Overall, it provides a sufficient response to the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate causes from solutions. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'To illustrate this', and 'Subsequently' are used to guide the reader. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions feel a bit repetitive. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between sentences in the second paragraph could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. The structure is coherent, and the progression of the argument is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'culminate' (though used incorrectly here, as it means to reach a climax rather than to solve) and 'sophisticated software'. Some word choices are slightly imprecise, such as 'energy-related concerns' or 'health integrity'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, the misuse of certain words and the reliance on somewhat basic collocations prevent a higher score. The vocabulary is functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'A regular training sessions' (subject-verb agreement) and 'despite the experience most of the older adults are unemployed' (missing punctuation). Some phrasing is awkward, such as 'culminate the issue', which affects clarity. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. The control of complex structures is inconsistent, and there is a need for more careful proofreading to address minor errors in articles, prepositions, and sentence construction to improve accuracy.
