IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries, it can be very difficult for people over the age of 50 to get good jobs, despite their experience.
What do you think are the causes of this problem, and what measures could be taken to solve it?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
So the concept of not getting or rearly getting jobs after the age of 50 is very common is most of the countries.Despite the fact that people of such a age have more experience then the youth.Well maybe it is because of the age because it can be very difficult for them to adopt new thing as they can be experinced in certain things but as we know that technology is improving day by day .Although youth have brain that can process fast and adopt quickly then the agerd but they can never be able to do tasks with great preficiency then the agerd.People abouve 50 are considered old and can forget things it can be very difficult for them to adopt advancements.
In case of jobs that demands physical work, there bodoes have become fragile and weak .They can barely do physical jobs .
Although they can't do physical jobs but i think they are suitable for office jobs .They have the experience .They can do a lot better work then the youth. As they have spent whole life of their's doing this work if they belonged to that field. For example,a bank manager of the age more than 50 is highly experiiencd then a new joinee . They can train the new employees ,ask them to do different kinds of work to teach him how the system works. They can be very helpful if we use there experience in a good way rather than kicking them out of work or not by not accepting them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes such as technological changes and physical limitations, and offering solutions regarding the use of older workers in office-based or mentoring roles. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For example, the argument regarding technology and physical decline is stated multiple times without deep elaboration. The tone is often informal and conversational, starting with 'So the concept...', which impacts the academic register. While the position is clear throughout, the ideas are under-developed, aligning best with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text suffers from poor paragraphing and logical progression. The first paragraph is an extended, dense block of text containing multiple distinct ideas, while the second paragraph abruptly shifts to physical work before jumping back to office jobs. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, with frequent reliance on informal conjunctions like 'Although' without balanced clauses. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'they can do a lot better work then the youth' without precise antecedents. Overall organisation shows some attempt at grouping ideas, but there is no clear progression, placing it firmly at a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary range is limited and frequently repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'jobs', 'work', 'youth', and 'aged'. There are numerous spelling errors and misspellings throughout the text, such as 'rearly' instead of 'rarely', 'thing' instead of 'things', 'experinced', 'agerd', 'preficiency', 'abouve', 'bodoes', and 'experiiencd'. Word choice and collocation are often unnatural, for example, 'kicking them out of work'. These frequent lexical errors and limited vocabulary choices cause noticeable difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4.0 descriptors closely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The writing displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent and persistent errors. Simple sentences are often poorly constructed, and attempts at complex structures using 'although' or relative clauses consistently result in faulty punctuation and missing subjects or verbs, such as 'Despite the fact that people of such a age have more experience then the youth.Well maybe it is because of the age...'. Punctuation is weak, with missing commas and erratic capitalization. Errors are frequent and often obscure the meaning, making it difficult for the reader to follow complex thoughts, which is characteristic of Band 4.0.
