IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries, it can be very difficult for people over the age of 50 to get good jobs, despite their experience.

What do you think are the causes of this problem, and what measures could be taken to solve it?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that it becomes difficult to get a job over the age of 50. There can be multiple reasons for this. Firsts is that your body restricts you from doing heavy physical duties as you get tired easily. It is not easy to do labour work as you get old. People, after hearing a person’s age, automatically thinks that they will not be able to do much work and they also think about their consequences. If there are tech jobs or any other they won’t hire you because of your ideas that do not fit in the society anymore. Older people do not try to understand the modern tech companies their methods of working. Sometimes people stick to their old thinking and do not try to change their mindset with advance technology or methods.They should be given the guidance to make them familiar with advanced methods.

But that doesn’t mean that they should not get the jobs. They should have equal opportunities to prove their skill and talent. They should also be given a chance as any other person. And if problems occur between their understanding, then both sides should consider taking steps to know the other person and try to solve the situation. Older people have more and experience and knowledge that they were collecting throughout the time. The younger ones can seek a lot from them if they engage well with each other. So both of the generations need to understand each other’s situations and ideas and respect them.
