Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people beleive that people of ages between fiftees cannot get job because their age is a major problem.Their age demands rest and peace and alot of companies wants youth for their task and works. Therefore in numerous countries people find challenging to get job at the the age fifty. In my view, people should get retirement from their job after the age of fifty and enjoy their remaining life.It is the responsibility of their children to take care of them.

The main and vivid cause of not getting the job at fifty is that numerous companies are trying to hire young people.Furthermore, they do not care about experience they only care about hoe fast employ complete his or her task and that is the cause companies are not hiring people of ages at fifty because they are too slow as compared to the young people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the minimum length requirement, containing only 146 words instead of the required 250 words. Because of this severe under-length, the task is only partially addressed. While the student attempts to identify causes such as companies preferring younger workers who work faster, the ideas remain highly limited and underdeveloped. Furthermore, the prompt asks for causes and measures to solve the problem, but the student completely fails to discuss any measures or solutions, instead offering a personal opinion that individuals over fifty should simply retire. This omission of a core part of the task, combined with the major shortfall in word count, places this response firmly at band 4.0 according to the official descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into two brief paragraphs, but the overall progression of ideas is disjointed and lacks proper organizational structure. While some basic cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'Therefore' and 'Furthermore', they are sometimes repetitive or awkwardly placed. For instance, transitioning from discussing the challenges of getting a job into arguing that people should simply retire does not follow a clear logical progression for an argumentative essay. Paragraphing is insufficient due to the extremely short length of the text, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as pronoun usage in 'how fast employ complete his or her task'. Overall, the mechanical use of cohesion and lack of clear structure reflect band 5.0 characteristics.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and restricted to simple everyday language. The student makes several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'beleive', 'fiftees', 'alot', 'employ' instead of 'employee', and 'hoe' instead of 'how'. Phrases like 'alot of companies wants youth for their task and works' demonstrate a limited lexical range with frequent inaccuracies. There is little attempt to use less common vocabulary or demonstrate lexical flexibility, and some expressions cause strain for the reader. This level of vocabulary and accuracy aligns with a band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The grammatical structures attempted are generally very simple, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('companies wants', 'employ complete'), missing articles ('get job', 'at the the age fifty'), and incorrect preposition use ('find challenging to get job at the the age fifty'). Punctuation and spacing errors are also present, such as missing spaces after periods. While simple sentences can sometimes be understood, the high frequency of errors across a limited range of structures restricts the score for this criterion to band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
