Student answer (Band 5.5)
In many countries, it can be very difficult for people over te age of 50 to get good jobs, despite their experience. There are several causes of this problem such as unable to work for longer hours and inability to cope with the modern technologies. However, effective measures such as flexible working hours and providing training related new technologies could help overcome this problem.
One of the main reasons of this problem is that some individuals above the age of 50 are unable to work for longer hours because of their physical limitations. If a person cannot meet the criteria of working hours, the company may not hire them. Another reason is their inability to cope with the modern tools and technologies. For instance, an elderly person may not know how to complete the task using AI. A lack of knowledge of newly developed technologies prevents older people to get a good job.
To solve the problem, the companies should offer flexible working hours to their senior workers. This helps them to work as per their convienence, which in turn allows them to stay focused during longer work hours. Therefore, this method helps an older person to work for longer period during a day. Additionally. the companies should provide sufficient trainings to their senior employees about new techonologies arriving in the market. This helps older workers to stay updated with the current trend, which in turn helps in securing a good job in the company.
In conclusion, people over the age of 50 face difficulty is getting a good job because of their incapability to work for longer hours and inability to cope with the modern tools. However, these issue can be addressed by providing flexible working hours and effective trainings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying causes, such as physical limitations and technological challenges, and suggesting measures like flexible hours and training. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the ideas are relevant, they tend to be basic and lack deeper extension or more detailed, concrete examples. For instance, mentioning that an elderly person may not know how to use AI is a good start, but it remains brief and underdeveloped. The position is generally clear throughout, yet the limited elaboration places the response at this level, as some ideas are more fully explored than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical structure. It is divided into appropriate paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs tackling causes and solutions respectively, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'One of the main reasons', 'Another reason', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive in structure. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but overall progression could be smoother and more sophisticated to reach higher bands.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the main arguments with terms like 'physical limitations', 'senior workers', and 'current trend'. The writer makes some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are occasionally accompanied by word-choice and word-form inaccuracies, such as 'convienence' (spelling error), 'techonologies' (spelling error), and awkward phrasings like 'prevents older people to get' instead of 'prevents older people from getting'. There are also minor slips in collocation and form, but these do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied structures through conditional clauses and relative pronouns. However, there are noticeable grammatical errors throughout the response, such as preposition and article omissions or misuses (e.g., 'difficulty is getting' instead of 'difficulty in getting', 'providing trainings' where training is uncountable, and missing articles). Punctuation issues also appear, such as a sentence fragment with a full stop ('Additionally. the companies...'). These errors in grammar and punctuation occur with some frequency, though they rarely impede overall communication.
