Student answer (Band 6.0)

In many countries, it can be very difficult for people over the age of 50 to get good jobs, despite their experience. There are several causes of this problem such as unable to work for longer hours and inability to cope with the modern technologies. However, effective measures such as flexible working hours and providing training related new technologies could help overcome this problem.

One of the main reasons of this problem is that some individuals above the age of 50 are unable to work for longer hours because of their physical limitations. If a person cannot meet the criteria of working hours, the company may not hire them. Another reason is their inability to cope with the modern tools and technologies. For instance, an elderly person may not know how to complete the task using AI. A lack of knowledge of newly developed technologies prevents older people to get a good job.

To solve the problem, the companies should offer flexible working hours to their senior workers. This helps them to work as per their convenience, which in turn allows them to stay focused during longer work hours. Therefore, this method helps an older person to work for a longer period during a day. Additionally, the companies should provide the sufficient amount of trainings to their senior employees about new technologies arriving in the market. This helps older workers to stay updated with the current trend, which in turn helps in securing a good job in the company.

In conclusion, people over the age of 50 face difficulty in getting a good job because of their incapability to work for longer hours and inability to cope with the modern tools. However, theis issue can be addressed by providing flexible working hours and effective trainings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying causes, such as physical limitations and technological challenges, and suggesting measures like flexible hours and training. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack extension. For instance, the point regarding physical limitations is stated simply as an inability to work longer hours without deeper exploration of economic or industry-specific contexts. The position is clear throughout, but the development remains somewhat repetitive across the body paragraphs, which keeps the response at this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, moving logically from an introduction to causes, solutions, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas throughout the response. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One of the main reasons', 'To solve the problem', and 'In conclusion', but referencing and conjunctions are sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive. The transition between sentences within paragraphs works adequately, successfully meeting the requirements of this band while showing elements of more advanced logical flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main points with a sufficient range for basic discussion. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'physical limitations', 'convenience', and 'securing a good job', but there are noticeable word choice and word formation inaccuracies, such as 'trainings' (which is uncountable) and 'related new technologies' instead of 'related to new technologies'. Spelling is generally accurate, but occasional lexical slips mean the resource remains limited in flexibility and precision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like conditional clauses ('If a person cannot meet...') and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing prepositions and article issues like 'the sufficient amount of trainings', but these errors rarely impede communication. The majority of simple sentences are error-free, while attempts at complex structures occasionally introduce minor inaccuracies, aligning well with the characteristics of this band.
