Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response sits at this level because it addresses the task only minimally and fails to meet the required word count of at least 250 words, stopping short at only 122 words. The writing touches upon why people over 50 face employment difficulties, suggesting that many seek comfort or retirement, while briefly noting that experienced workers can share valuable skills. However, these ideas remain extremely limited and under-developed, lacking proper examples or clear explanations of potential measures to solve the problem. The student attempts a conversational opening rather than addressing the academic prompt directly, which prevents the formulation of a clear position or well-supported arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.0
Coherence and cohesion are restricted by the lack of clear paragraphing and an overall structure. The response is written as a single, continuous block of text without periods or paragraph breaks, making it difficult to follow a logical progression of ideas. While the writer uses basic transitional expressions like 'beacause', 'but in the other hand', and 'on the behalf of it', these cohesive devices are applied inaccurately and mechanical referencing frequently breaks down. To move forward, the text needs to be divided into distinct paragraphs with clear topic sentences, utilizing accurate and varied cohesive ties to connect distinct causes and measures logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Lexical resource sits at this level because the vocabulary is basic and repetitive, utilizing everyday terms such as 'good jobs', 'many kind of people', and 'large amount of salary'. There are numerous spelling and word-form errors throughout the text, including 'Thankyou', 'ask to me', 'confortort', 'retired age', 'experiend', 'feild', and 'peime'. These errors and limited word choices mean the vocabulary is minimally adequate for communicating very simple thoughts, but frequent inaccuracies strain the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range by incorporating less common vocabulary, precise academic collocations, and correct word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Grammatical range and accuracy are constrained by a very limited range of structures and frequent errors. The text consists largely of a single, run-on sentence joined by coordinating conjunctions and conversational filler, lacking proper punctuation and sentence boundaries. There are persistent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'is the 50 ages of people face', 'they get job', and 'hepl them in their business'. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. Introducing a mix of accurate simple and complex sentence forms with correct punctuation would significantly improve the grammar score.
