Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the causes of employment difficulties for people over 50 and proposing measures to solve them. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed, placing the response at this level. For instance, the causes mentioned, such as companies preferring younger minds or older people lacking social platform awareness, are introduced but not fully explained with concrete examples or extended reasoning. Similarly, the proposed solutions, such as government funding and using traditional channels like the radio, are stated broadly without detailing how they would practically be implemented by businesses. The position is generally clear throughout, but the lack of fully elaborated arguments prevents the essay from achieving a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always clear, which aligns with this band. For example, transitional phrases such as 'Primarily', 'In addition', and 'To conclude' are used to signal the structure, but internal cohesion within paragraphs can be repetitive, such as the frequent repetition of the phrase 'to find jobs'. While there is a logical progression from causes to solutions, the mechanical nature of the cohesive devices and occasional unclear referencing mean the response sits comfortably at this level rather than progressing further.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used provides a minimally adequate range for the task, but noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'competetive' (competitive) and 'flexibily' (flexibly), but these attempts are often marred by spelling mistakes and awkward collocations like 'long-time service' instead of 'long service'. Additionally, words are misused in phrases such as 'posses new jobs' instead of 'create new jobs' or 'provide new positions'. These lexical slips and limited control over less common terms restrict the score for this criterion, as the vocabulary lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader. There are noticeable issues with subject-verb agreement, articles, and plurals, such as 'older people often lacks to find job', 'adult too have chance', and 'this problems'. Preposition and grammatical pattern errors are also present, as seen in 'awareness among the elder people about the job opportunities'. While the underlying meaning is usually discernible, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies across different structures prevents the response from achieving a higher band descriptor.
