Student answer (Band 6.0)
In few countries, people over the age of 50 with work experience are finding it hard to secure decent jobs. I believe the main reason behind this problem is lack of knowledge in using current digital tools, which can be solved by conducting workshops to equip them with relevant skills and knowledge to become job-ready once again.
Firstly, the rapid increase in adoption of technology tools in businesses has made it difficult for senior professionals to be eligible for the current job roles. This is because, they are not tech savy and are not aware on how to use new technology tools such as facebook marketing and google analytics. For example, television and running advertisement on newspaper were common channel of running ads. In the digital era, advertisement are now run online using data. Since old people do not have the skills to use the digital tools they will not be able to run succesful marketing campaigns.
The gap in knowledge can be easily solved by running workshops for people over the age of 50. It is important to structure the course in a manner that is easily understable by the old folks. Because of their experience they already know the fundamentals of the business, therefore, these sessions should aim at teaching them modern digital tools they businesses currently use. For example, governments can reach out to the NGOs or schools to prepare a curriculum for senior citizens to eqip them with necessary skills to made them job ready once again.
In conclusion, while people over the age of 50 have immense work experience they are not suitable for current high-paying jobs because of lack of technology skills. This issue can easily be tackled by hosting cohorts focusing only on teaching train them to use current tools that are being used by businesses today.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear central view: limited digital skills make experienced older workers less competitive, and workshops could help them update those skills. The examples about online advertising and government partnerships with NGOs or schools make the response relevant. However, the causes are treated narrowly: the essay presents technology as the main explanation without considering other plausible barriers, such as age discrimination, salary expectations, or employers’ preference for younger staff. The proposed workshops are also not fully developed; explain how they would connect participants to actual vacancies or encourage employers to hire them. More balanced, specific development of the causes and measures would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining the cause, a paragraph proposing a solution, and a conclusion. The progression from the digital-skills problem to workshops is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some control of paragraphing. To make the flow more flexible and precise, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and strengthen links between claims and examples. For instance, the advertising example could be explicitly tied back to why employers might reject experienced applicants. Clarify references such as “these sessions” and “they businesses” so the connections between ideas remain smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “digital tools,” “job roles,” “curriculum,” and “fundamentals of the business,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “Google Analytics” and “marketing campaigns.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-choice, and collocation errors reduce precision: “tech savy,” “understable,” “succesful,” and “eqip” are misspelled, while “running advertisement on newspaper” and “high-paying jobs” do not express the intended points naturally in context. Aim to use accurate, natural collocations and proofread spelling. A broader range for discussing recruitment barriers and training would also help express the argument more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “tools such as Facebook marketing and Google Analytics” and a reason clause beginning “Because of their experience.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but errors occur across sentence structures, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “In few countries” needs an article, “This is because, they” has incorrect punctuation, and “advertisement are now run” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The final sentence, “cohorts focusing only on teaching train them,” is structurally unclear. Work on producing accurate complex sentences and checking agreement and clause construction; these recurring errors currently limit control, even though the reader can follow the main message.
