Student answer (Band 6.5)
Helping our elders and giving them the respect they deserve is crucial. As these old people were once the backbone of the country in which we currenlty live and thrive. Today we'll discuss one important way in which we can help them. It is by providing them the opportunity to earn and live in a respectable manner.
Nowadays, when even some young people struggle to land a job, it becomes almost impossible for the older people aged above 50 to get a decent job despite possessing the neccessary skills and experience. One reason for this problem is the attitude of companies. They view old people as liabilities. Even before testing them and giving them a chance, the hiring managers start discouraging elder people by advicing them to retire instead of applying for jobs. This is most common in construction companies. When they see an old applicant, they presume that the old fellow won't be fit enough for the labour work. Moreover, some companies dont like old people advertising their product, as they need a young and fresh looking guy to attract public attention.
To cater these problems, new laws must be made to protect the working rights of elderly people. Any company that rejects people solely based on age must be sued and publically shamed. Furthermore, public welfare groups should work with the government to change the perception of companies and common people towards the elderly. This can be done by running advertisements which show older people taking on tasks which are thought to only be for young people. For example the promotion of a perfume or a clothing brand. This can change how young people view old people. Additonally, movies and tv shows showing elder people as main leads can also help us sway public opinion. This way, instead of liabilities, older people would be viewed as valuable assets of our country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear view that older people should have fair opportunities to work. The causes are relevant: employers may assume applicants over 50 are physically unsuitable, or prefer younger people for promotional roles. You also propose legal protection and public campaigns, with examples such as older people promoting brands and appearing as lead characters. These points support the response, but some are more fully explained than others. The discussion of age-based rejection is clear, while the advertising example and the proposed legal consequences would benefit from more explanation of how they improve access to good jobs. To strengthen the response further, develop each cause and measure with a clearer link to employment outcomes and a specific, realistic example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph explaining causes, and a paragraph proposing measures. The progression from employers’ assumptions to legal and social responses is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One reason,” “Moreover,” and “Furthermore” help guide the reader. However, some linking is mechanical, and the opening spends time on general praise for older people before directly framing the problem. The final paragraph also moves quickly from laws to advertising and entertainment, so the relationship between these measures could be made clearer. Use more precise referencing and transitions, and organise the solutions so that each is followed by an explanation of its likely effect.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “liabilities,” “hiring managers,” “public welfare groups,” and “public opinion.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning remains clear. There are, however, some spelling errors, such as “currenlty,” “neccessary,” “advicing,” and “Additonally,” as well as word-choice and collocation issues. For example, “old people” is repeated and can sound blunt; “older workers” or “older applicants” would be more appropriate in this context. “Sued and publically shamed” is also an imprecise and overly forceful formulation. Aim for more consistent formal phrasing and check spelling carefully to improve accuracy and range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “Any company that rejects people solely based on age must be sued” and a relative clause in “tasks which are thought to only be for young people.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening fragment, “As these old people were once the backbone…,” is not a complete sentence because it begins with a subordinating conjunction and has no main clause. “To cater these problems” also has an incorrect grammatical pattern; the verb requires “for.” In addition, “the older people aged above 50” is awkwardly structured. Review sentence completeness and verb-preposition patterns, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
