Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, securing a suitable job has become a major challenge for the people over the age of 50. This issue is primarily caused by age discrmination in hiring and it is common belief that older people have lack of modern technologies. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this and some practical solution to solve it.

To begin with, a majority factor behind this trend is the age discrimination. It means some employers think that opld age people have various health related issues, they cannot be suitable for doing the high load works due to lack of energy. Due to this companies do not hire the overage people. However, organizations think that older job seekers do not have skills regarding the modern technologies such as AI learning, digital tools and new software. For instance, in modern offices where tasks relay on modern computeer programs, recruiters often assume that pople over 50 will struggle to adapt these digitals tools. Consequently, experienced older individulas are rejected during the hiring process.

To solve this issue, several steps are taken. The most significant measure is the that tha implementation of anti-discrimination law. Government should impose the laws that banned age related criteria in job advertisements and prohibit recruiters to ask the age and birth during the hiring process. This help the old age people to get a suitable job opportunity to secure their future. Furthermore, to address this issue, authorities should provides the free reskilling programs to educate older people regarding the advanced technology or tech skills. Through this people over the age 50 get a golden opportunity to become hired.

In conclusion, due to lack of modern skills and health issues older people do not get a good job. But, with the assistance of free subsidized trainig or laws against discrimination this problem can be solved.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the question: it identifies age discrimination and employers’ assumptions about older workers’ health and digital skills, then proposes anti-discrimination laws and reskilling programmes. The position is clear, and the example of recruiters assuming applicants over 50 will struggle with office software helps illustrate one cause. This meets the task well overall, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the health-related explanation is asserted rather than supported, and the proposed laws are not explored in terms of how they would be enforced or how they would change hiring practices. To strengthen the response, explain the causes and measures more precisely and show how each proposed measure would address a specific barrier.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions, and a conclusion. The progression from problem to response is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, with repeated transitions such as “To solve this issue” and “Furthermore,” and some links between ideas are not fully clear. The sentence beginning “However, organizations think…” does not express a clear contrast with the preceding point. The conclusion also repeats the main points without adding a concise synthesis. Use a wider range of natural links and make the relationship between each cause, example, and solution explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “age discrimination,” “hiring process,” “reskilling programs,” and “anti-discrimination law.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue specifically rather than relying only on basic terms. However, the range and control are uneven, and several inaccurate or unnatural expressions reduce precision: “a majority factor,” “high load works,” “modern computeer programs,” and “golden opportunity” do not fit the intended meaning or register. Spelling errors such as “discrmination,” “individulas,” and “trainig” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate collocations and proofread spelling; for example, use “a major factor,” “physically demanding work,” and “digital software” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

There is some variety in sentence forms, including complex clauses such as “For instance, in modern offices where tasks rely on…” and the conditional-style explanation of how training could help. The main ideas remain understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include “older job seekers do not have skills” (missing an article), “This help” (subject–verb agreement), “authorities should provides” (incorrect verb form), and “laws that banned” (tense and clause-form error). The sentence “The most significant measure is the that the implementation…” also has a faulty structure. These errors occur in otherwise clear communication, but they limit accuracy. Practise article use, agreement, and verb patterns, then check each sentence for a complete and correctly formed clause.
