Student answer (Band 6.0)
Getting jobs for people over the age of 50 has become a growing concern in many parts of the world even after having years of experience in their fields. This situation can be attributed to several factors, and a number of effective measures can be taken to adress it.
One major cause of this problem is age discrimination. Employers prefer younger cendidates because they believe they are more famaliar with modern technology. Some companies assume that older workers will struggle to learn new digital skills. Another contributing factor is higher employment costs, which means that older employees may expect higher salaries because of their extensive experience. Employers might belioeve that hiring younger workers is more cost effective. Also, some businesses may be worry about the remaining length of an older employee's carees before retirement. As a result, experienced people over age of 50 may be rejected despite having excellent qualifactions.
There are several possible isssue to this problem. First, introduce strict anti-discrimination laws.Government should prohibit employers from rejecting candidates solely because of their age. Companies should assess aplicants according to their skill, qualification and experience. Moreover, penalties should be imposed on businesses that engage in age discrimination. Secondly, companies should offer digital skills training and professional development programmes to older workers. In addition, employers could receive tax benifits and subsidies for hiring people over age 50. This would help older applicants reamin competitive in a rapidly changing job market.
In conclusion, getting job for people over 50 is mainly caused by age discrimination and higher employment costs. However, this issue can be tackled effectively by introducing laws against age discrimination and by providing training and financial incentives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question by identifying causes—age discrimination, assumptions about digital skills, salary expectations and retirement—and proposing laws, training, and hiring incentives. Your position is clear, and the conclusion accurately summarises the main points. The ideas are relevant, but some are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, you mention that older workers may expect higher salaries and that employers worry about their remaining careers, but do not show how these concerns affect recruitment or give a concrete example. The measures are also listed more than developed: explain how training would change employers’ perceptions, or how penalties and subsidies could be applied. More specific support and fuller explanation of the causes and solutions would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions, and a conclusion. The progression from problem to remedies is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One major cause,” “Another contributing factor,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This clear organisation is a strength. However, some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated sequencing of points with “Another,” “Also,” “First,” and “Secondly.” The sentence “There are several possible isssue to this problem” also creates a brief interruption because its meaning and connection to the solutions paragraph are unclear. Use more precise transitions and connect each proposed measure explicitly to the cause it addresses to make cohesion more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “age discrimination,” “digital skills,” “professional development programmes,” and “financial incentives.” These terms make the response relevant and generally clear, and phrases such as “rapidly changing job market” show an attempt to use more specific language. However, several spelling errors—“cendidates,” “famaliar,” “belioeve,” and “qualifactions”—and inaccurate forms such as “possible isssue” and “benifits” reduce precision. Some expressions are also less natural, including “higher employment costs” and “remaining length” of an employee’s career. Aim to check spelling carefully and choose collocations that express the intended idea precisely, such as “salary costs” or “years remaining until retirement.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “because they believe they are more familiar with modern technology” and a conditional structure in “This would help older applicants remain competitive.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “people over age of 50” needs an article (“over the age of 50”), while “Government should prohibit” needs a determiner or plural form (“The government” or “Governments”). In “some businesses may be worry,” the verb pattern should be “may worry” or “may be worried.” There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, such as the missing space after “laws.” Review articles, verb patterns, and punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
