Student answer (Band 5.0)

In some countries, people over the age of 50 despite their work experiences, they are being replaced by younger employees with lessser experience. Strictly to the case of this topic, the issue is not about who has the higher experience but more of who is capable of creating ideas that could potentialy benefit the business. You might be thinking, "well, It is as it should be". However, a business built under youngin with groundbreaking ideas but little to no experience are bound to fail. I am not saying the younger generations are incapable of managing a business, there are many successful businesses run by a young CEO. Instead, what I am saying is that in the field of workspace there should be equal amount employee that could offer experience and fresh and new ideas. Another cause to this problem is how people tend to believe that people over 50 are less capable of enduring the physical and mental stress that came with the work. But in my opinion, they are underestimating the capability of people over 50. They are the people of experiences, they also hadfa similar problems and in most cases they are more capable than the youngin. However, my statement does not mean that the experience of the worker solely depends on the age of the worker nor that older generations have an outdated ideas. My solution to this issue would be to stop judging people of their appearence and give an equal amount of chances to each and every people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify two relevant causes: employers may favour younger applicants for their ideas, and may assume older workers cannot cope with physical or mental demands. You also state a position in favour of valuing experience alongside fresh ideas. However, the response only partially answers the task because the causes are discussed more than the measures, and the proposed solution—“stop judging people of their appearance and give an equal amount of chances”—is broad and not explained in practical terms. Develop specific actions, such as age-discrimination rules, skills training, or structured recruitment, and explain how they would help. Some claims, including that businesses led by young people are “bound to fail,” are too sweeping and need qualification or supporting examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a discernible line of thought: it introduces the issue, discusses assumptions about younger and older workers, and ends with a proposed solution. Linking expressions such as “Another cause” and “However” help signal relationships between ideas. Nevertheless, the argument does not progress clearly from causes to solutions, and the long opening paragraph combines several points without clear separation. The repeated qualifications beginning “I am not saying” and “my statement does not mean” interrupt the flow rather than advancing the answer. Use separate paragraphs for the causes and measures, and make each paragraph develop one main point with a clear explanation or example. More precise referencing would also help readers follow what “they” and “this issue” refer to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “experience,” “capable,” “physical and mental stress,” and “groundbreaking ideas,” so the main meaning is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “youngin,” “lessser,” “potentialy,” “appearence,” and “people of experiences.” Phrases such as “equal amount employee” and “workspace” are also imprecise in context. Aim for accurate, natural expressions for employment and recruitment, and check spelling and word forms carefully. Replacing repeated general terms such as “people” and “ideas” with precise alternatives would also make the discussion more flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a contrast introduced by “Although” in meaning and clauses beginning “that” and “who.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “people over the age of 50 … they are being replaced” repeats the subject, while “a business … ideas … are bound to fail” has unclear agreement and structure. In “the stress that came with the work,” the tense does not fit the general claim, and “there should be equal amount employee” lacks necessary grammatical elements. Practise building shorter, controlled sentences first, then combine ideas with accurate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and punctuation during revision.
