Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You identify two relevant possible causes: rapid technological change and employers’ preference for younger workers, whom they see as energetic and familiar with technology. However, the response does not fully answer the question. It gives no measures to solve the problem, and the causes are only briefly stated rather than explained or supported with examples. The final sentence, “Many big companies prefer the hard worker and”, is unfinished, so the argument stops before its point is clear. The response is also substantially below the required minimum length, leaving too little space to develop the causes and propose practical measures. To improve, address both parts explicitly and explain each idea with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening statement is followed by a paragraph introducing causes. The ideas about employers favouring younger workers and valuing technological familiarity are related, so the reader can identify the general direction. However, progression is limited, and the response ends abruptly with “Many big companies prefer the hard worker and”, leaving the final idea incomplete. The second paragraph also begins with a fragment, which makes the relationship between the causes difficult to follow. Use separate, complete paragraphs for causes and solutions, and connect each point with clear links such as “Another reason” and “To address this”. This would create a more coherent overall arrangement.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “secure jobs”, “work experience”, “employers”, “energetic” and “technology”. These choices make the general subject understandable. However, the range is narrow, and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, such as “rapid technology”, “over age” and “well known of the technology”. There are also spelling and word-form problems, including “unemployement” and “hardworker”. Aim for more precise collocations, for example “rapid technological change”, “older applicants” and “familiar with new technologies”. Building vocabulary for solutions—such as “retraining”, “age discrimination” and “flexible working”—would also help you express a fuller response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both a longer sentence with a concession (“even though they have work experience”) and shorter statements, showing some variety in sentence forms. The opening sentence is generally understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. For example, “One of the main reason …” has a singular/plural agreement problem, while “Because the employers prefer…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence. “The reason behind the younger employees they consider…” lacks a clear grammatical structure, and the final sentence is incomplete. Punctuation spacing is also inconsistent. Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these basic structures will make your ideas easier to follow.
