IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries, it can be very difficult for people over the age of 50 to get good jobs, despite their experience.
What do you think are the causes of this problem, and what measures could be taken to solve it?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Although people aged over 50 years have experience, they are finding it challenging in getting a appropiate job. In my opinion, physical disadvantages and high salary demand are the main reasons, as it may be solved by selecting competetive role and reducing wage limit.
On the one hand, despite of having experience people struggle to find a job because of lacking physical fitness. People, who are aged over 50, usually are unfit. Due to this, they become slow in their regular work because they are not able to move quickly to the problematic zone, which may cause challenging situations. So, companies usually avoid hiring older people. Moreover, employees, having proper experience, demand a higher amount of salary. This causes financial imbalance in the company's wage structure. They would prefer hiring a young blood rather than an experienced officer because a fresher will work efficiently with a low salary in comparison with an older officer.
On the other hand, physical activities could be reduced by allocating a proper role to the employees, who are over 50 years. For an example, they may do the job, which includes desk activites only like calculation, data entry, programing, and more. In these jobs less physical activities are required, which will solve the difficulties of quick movement and employees will be able to serve efficiently. For the other reason, employees should be prepared mentally in lowering their salary demands according to their age. They should not demand an amount of salary, which the company can't afford becauase it will eliminate him from the competetion despite having experience, as the company will face financial difficulties for providing salary over their capability.
In conclusion, companies prefer fitness and lower salary to experience, which is causing difficulties for getting proper workplaces by the people aged over 50. However, it may be solved by allocating appropiate role and lower salary demands

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question by identifying physical limitations and salary expectations as causes, then proposing role allocation and lower salary demands as measures. Your position is clear, and the examples of desk-based work, such as data entry and calculations, help make one solution relevant. However, some reasoning is general or not fully explained: the claim that people over 50 are “usually…unfit” is an unsupported generalisation, and the link between age and inability to move quickly needs qualification. The salary solution also places most responsibility on older applicants without considering employer measures, such as fair recruitment or training. Develop these points with more balanced explanation and specific examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on solutions, and a conclusion. The progression from “On the one hand” to “On the other hand” makes the main stages easy to follow, and ideas within each paragraph generally relate to its purpose. Some linking is mechanical, however, and repeated references to “physical” difficulties and salary make the development feel somewhat repetitive. A few references are also unclear, such as “it may be solved” in the introduction, where the pronoun’s meaning is not precise. Use more varied transitions and make links between each cause and its corresponding solution explicit to strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of vocabulary relevant to employment, including “financial imbalance,” “salary demands,” “allocating a proper role,” and “desk activities.” These choices communicate the main ideas, but several word-choice and collocation errors reduce naturalness: “a appropiate job,” “selecting competitive role,” “young blood,” and “proper workplaces” are awkward or imprecise in context. Spelling errors such as “competetive,” “activites,” “programing,” and “becauase” also show that written control is not consistent. Aim for accurate, conventional phrases and check spelling carefully; this will make your argument sound more precise without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “although,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, prepositions, and sentence construction. For example, “a appropiate job” needs the correct article, while “despite of having experience” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. The sentence beginning “People, who are aged over 50” also uses unnecessary punctuation around the relative clause, and “For an example” is not the correct grammatical expression. Review article use, relative clauses, and common preposition patterns, then proofread longer sentences to improve accuracy while retaining your range.
