Student answer (Band 6.0)

Citizens over the age of 50 often experience challenges in securing successful jobs in some nations, despite having numerous experience. This is partly because of their age and government implementing law that supports the employement of the elderly would be an effective approach to solve the issue.

To begin with, one significant reason why individuals who are aged fifty years and above face difficulties in getting proper job offer is because of the age itself. People often perceive individuals of that age to be too advanced to handle some certain nature of work because as one ages their strength and other vital functions of the body becomes weaker and also, some suffers from certain chronic health issues which can affect their work productivity. To illustrate, many individuals who are above 50 suffers arthritis, this can affec their activeness at work which may impact their work outcome. However, some of the aged are still very fit to handle sternous employement.

One substantial solution to this, is for authorities to implement law that encourages the employement of elderly individuals. Some citizens who are above the age of 50 are still very fit to work so if laws can be passed, companies will be willing to accept them. For instance, senior citizens of Nigeria initially encountered difficulties in getting employement as contract staff after retirement due to theiir age, nevertheless, after the state passed a law that supports that, it became effortlessly for them to be absorbed into a firm.

In conclusion, difficulties faced by the public age 50 years and above is because of the age itself and implementing a legal rule that encourages their employement will be a potential method to address the problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear position: age-related assumptions are presented as a cause, while legislation encouraging employers to hire older people is proposed as a solution. The discussion of reduced physical strength and health conditions gives the cause some explanation, and the arthritis example makes it more concrete. However, the causes are narrower than the task invites: age-based perceptions are mentioned, but not explored separately from physical capacity, and the solution is not developed beyond passing a law. The Nigeria example is relevant, though it would be more persuasive with clearer detail about what the law changed. Develop a second cause and explain how the proposed measure would work in practice.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the cause and solution, and a conclusion that restates the main points. Sequencing is easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This already shows effective organisation, but some links feel mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always expressed precisely. For example, “However” introduces a contrast after the arthritis example, but the point about some older people remaining fit could be connected more directly to the argument about employers’ assumptions. The conclusion also repeats the introduction rather than drawing the discussion together. Use clearer referencing and vary transitions by showing the exact logical link between claims.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “work productivity,” “chronic health issues,” “authorities,” and “contract staff,” so the main ideas are generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “one substantial solution.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the writing less natural: “numerous experience,” “proper job offer,” “sternous employement,” and “effortlessly” do not express the intended meanings precisely. Repeated use of “employement” and “elderly” also limits accuracy and variety. Build a reliable set of collocations for employment and age discrimination, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would make the argument sound clearer and more academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “after,” and the overall meaning remains understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “To illustrate, many individuals who are above 50 suffers arthritis,” in which the intended example is clear despite an agreement error. Other sentences show problems with subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence construction: “their strength and other vital functions … becomes weaker” and “some suffers” need plural verbs, while “implementing law” needs an article or plural form. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly around commas and sentence boundaries. Review agreement and article use, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb. Greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
