Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify relevant causes—employers’ preference for younger workers and older applicants’ difficulty keeping up with technology—and propose training and fairer hiring. This addresses both parts of the question, but the ideas remain limited and under-developed: for example, you state that younger people are more energetic without explaining why this affects hiring, and the training proposal is not supported with a practical example. Your position is broadly clear, though the conclusion mostly repeats the proposals rather than drawing them together. The response contains 169 words, so it is 81 words short of the 250-word minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt were not counted. Develop each cause and measure with explanation or an example, and use the available space to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions, and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the basic direction of the answer. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and several links are mechanical or unclear. For instance, “and younger people are energetic that's why” joins ideas awkwardly, while “secondly” introduces a measure without a clearly developed first measure. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than summarising a developed argument. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each explanation directly to its main point; paragraphing is a useful foundation, but ideas need more logical development and smoother links.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main points, including “experience,” “technology,” “training program,” and “equal jobs.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make the writing less clear or natural. Examples include “gorvernement,” “oppurtunites,” “good jobs” where the singular form is needed, and “equal jobs for all age.” Repeated use of “old people” also sounds imprecise in this context; “older workers” would be more appropriate. Build a wider set of accurate employment-related expressions and check spelling and collocations carefully. More precise vocabulary would help explain the causes and solutions without relying on repeated general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate mainly through simple sentences and make an attempt at a longer cause-and-effect structure, such as “many companies prefer younger people … because they believe…”. However, the range is limited, and frequent errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and verb forms sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “finding a good jobs,” “There are several reason,” “companies should provides,” and the run-on sequence “and younger people are energetic that's why they hire young people.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, including sentence openings such as “even if” and “there are.” Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine related ideas using controlled subordinate clauses and correct punctuation.
