Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent days the job market has become very competitive. It is argued that it has become difficult to get a decent job for people over 50 even though they have years of experience and skills. In this essay, we will discuss the reason behind this problem and measures to resolve this issue.
With fewer jobs in the market and the growth of younger generations entering the labour market has made the market very competitive. Companies would perfer to hire younger individuals as these individuals are more motivitated, proactive and might start working in lower salaries, which is financially beneficial for the companies. As a result, skilled and experienced individuals struggle to find the work that matches their qualification. Thus, many individuals over 50 usually tend work for lower paying jobs than they should.
The government should interven to promote the industries to accept individuals over 50 who are more experienced and skilled. The government should bring a provision where every companies should atleast have couple of places for these individuals. This will help younger individuals learn from experienced individuals, which would be beneficial for the companies. If a company hires an individual with 30 plus years of experience, they will support and helps expand the company with their expertise. Many of the executive managers of many organisations are usually over 50.
In conclusion, the lack of work and increased youth work force has pushed the older generation out job but their experience and skills would definitely help any organisations grow and expand.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: you identify employers’ preference for younger, lower-paid workers as a cause and propose government action to encourage hiring people over 50. The explanation that experienced employees can help younger colleagues and support company growth is relevant, and your position is clear. However, the causes are not explored fully: the claim that there are fewer jobs and more young people is asserted rather than explained, and the response gives little consideration to other possible barriers, such as age stereotypes or changing technical requirements. The proposed hiring provision is also quite general; explain how it could be implemented and why it would be effective. More specific examples or evidence would make the ideas more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions, and a conclusion. The progression from employers’ hiring preferences to the proposed government response is easy to follow, and linking phrases such as “As a result” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. However, connections are occasionally mechanical, and the cause paragraph moves quickly from competition to lower-paid work without fully explaining the link. The repeated reference to “individuals” and “companies” also makes the flow less natural. Develop each paragraph around a clearer sequence of claim, explanation, and example, and use pronouns or more varied referencing where the meaning remains clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “labour market,” “financially beneficial,” “experienced,” “expertise,” and “executive managers.” These choices communicate the main ideas and show an attempt to use more specific language than basic everyday terms. Some word-choice and spelling errors, however, reduce precision: “perfer” and “motivitated” are misspelled, while “lower salaries” is less natural than “lower wages” in this context. Phrases such as “the growth of younger generations entering the labour market” are also awkwardly expressed. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms for the causes and solutions would help you explain the issue with greater flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “even though they have years of experience” and a relative clause in “individuals over 50 who are more experienced and skilled.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “With fewer jobs … has made the market” has a faulty sentence structure; “every companies should” has incorrect agreement; and “they will support and helps” mixes verb forms. There are also missing or misplaced grammatical elements in “usually tend work” and “pushed the older generation out job.” Review subject–verb agreement, verb patterns after “tend,” and sentence construction when beginning with “With.” Greater control of these forms would make your varied structures more reliable.
