Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response identifies the broad topic and mentions several relevant positive and negative features, but it addresses the task only partially. The overview is vague (“and so on” and “others”) and does not summarise the main patterns across all three years. Some figures are inaccurate: museums and galleries are reported as accounting for “around 40%,” whereas the chart shows roughly 29–35%; nightlife and transport are grouped as “only 25%,” although their values are mostly around 20–25%. The account of the worst features stops after “around 60” and omits the remaining chart and the line graph on litter, air quality and noise. The response is also below the required 150 words: 102 words, with 18 copied prompt words excluded. Include a complete overview and select accurate comparisons from each visual.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some basic organisation: an opening sentence is followed by an overview and separate sections for the best and worst aspects. The labels “Overall,” “Best things” and “Worst things” help signal the intended structure. However, progression is limited because the final section ends abruptly, and the line graph is not incorporated. Connections between details are also unclear in places, as in “and mixture of people, museums and galleries accounted around 40%.” The overview’s “and so on” and “others” do not guide the reader toward the key comparisons. Develop complete paragraphs, group related information clearly, and use linking phrases to compare years and categories rather than listing features loosely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant vocabulary for describing survey results, including “outcomes,” “accounted,” “range of shops,” and “traffic congestion.” This is enough to communicate the general subject, but the range is limited and several phrases are imprecise or awkward. For example, “what individuals … think of the city” is understandable but less natural than “residents’ views of the city,” while “only 25% of people liked” does not clearly describe the chart’s reported proportions. “And so on” and “others” are vague and weaken the report’s precision. There is also a spelling error in “aroud.” Aim for accurate chart-reporting collocations such as “was the most popular feature” and “the proportion citing,” and use precise category names consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few different sentence forms, including an opening sentence with an infinitive phrase and a comparison beginning “On the other hand.” However, control is uneven, and several errors make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. In the overview, “the best things … is” has subject–verb disagreement, and “and so on. and the worst things” contains faulty sentence punctuation. The phrase “about 45% people liked range of shops” is missing an article or suitable preposition, while “as followed by” is not a correctly formed comparison. The final sentence, “the cost of living, traffic congestion and crime because of it aroud 60,” is incomplete. Use complete sentences, check agreement and articles, and proofread punctuation and sentence endings.
