Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies two relevant features: the range of shops is presented as a leading positive, while transport is described as receiving fewer votes. However, it gives no figures, year-by-year comparisons, or account of the other categories, and it does not describe the worst-things chart or the line graph on problems such as litter, air quality and noise. The overview is therefore very limited and does not capture the main patterns across the visuals. The report also falls substantially short of the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, provide a clear overview of the main trends, then select and compare key figures from all three visuals.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The two sentences have a basic order: an opening statement is followed by an overall observation, and “Overall” signals the shift to a summary. This gives the short response some organisation. However, there is no developed progression or paragraphing, and the ideas are not connected through comparisons or supporting details. The opening refers generally to a survey, while the second sentence names only two categories, so the relationship between the visuals and the summary remains unclear. Build a report with a brief introduction, an overview, and separate detail paragraphs grouping related charts. Use linking expressions such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show comparisons, rather than relying on a single transition.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “survey,” “range of the shops,” and “transport,” so the reader can identify the general subject. However, the range is very narrow and several expressions are awkward or imprecise: “the vision of the people about their city” is not a natural way to describe survey opinions, and “voted by less number of people” is an unsuitable collocation for reporting percentages. “High” and “less” also do not precisely describe the chart data. Use terms such as “respondents,” “percentage,” “most popular feature,” and “least frequently selected” to report findings accurately. Naming the chart categories and using varied comparison language would make the vocabulary more appropriate to an academic report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a complex opening sentence and a summary sentence, and the main message is still understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven. In “The bar chart and line graph clearly demonstrates,” the compound subject requires “demonstrate”; “Overall, It” has incorrect capitalisation after the comma; and “range of the shops were high” has problems with article use, number agreement, and sentence construction. The second sentence also uses a comma after “obvious that” where none is needed. Most of the writing relies on simple structures, with little variety to show control. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and article use, and form clear comparison sentences, for example: “The range of shops was the most popular feature.”
