Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the report attempts to describe the data, the overview is missing, and the information is presented in a fragmented, list-like manner rather than a cohesive report. Several key trends are described, but the analysis lacks depth and fails to synthesize the information effectively. The failure to reach the minimum length, combined with the lack of a clear overview and the under-developed nature of the data description, means the response only partially addresses the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into short, disjointed paragraphs. While there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover', these are used mechanically and often incorrectly. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the sentences lack logical flow and the relationship between the data points is not clearly established. Referencing is often unclear, and the lack of a proper introduction or summary makes the overall structure feel incomplete and disorganized.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic terms like 'good things', 'worst things', and 'high', which restricts the ability to describe the data with precision. There are noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'conclusion of the people' instead of 'opinions' or 'survey results', and 'mixture of people's' instead of 'cultural diversity'. These errors, while not always impeding communication, demonstrate a lack of range and control over academic vocabulary required for Task 1.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The bar chart illustrate', 'their are worst things'), incorrect verb tenses ('it was again increases'), and awkward phrasing ('starting year near by 38%'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty or grammatically incorrect. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces placed before commas and periods. These frequent errors indicate a limited control over grammatical structures.
