Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to describe the provided charts, but it fails to accurately represent the data. The description of the trends is vague and often factually incorrect based on the provided images (e.g., claiming categories are 'the same' when they clearly fluctuate). The report lacks a clear overview, which is essential for Task 1. The information is presented in a fragmented way, and the analysis does not highlight key features or significant differences effectively. To improve, you must focus on identifying the most important trends and reporting the data with precision rather than making broad, inaccurate generalizations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the different graphs is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited and repetitive (e.g., 'In first year', 'In second year'). The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which data point is being discussed. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic phrases like 'the range of' and 'same %'. There is a lack of precise terminology to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'peaked'. Additionally, there are errors in word choice, such as 'mixture of people' and 'plays similar roles', which do not accurately describe statistical data. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary and focusing on accurate collocations for data description will significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('they shown', 'graph describe'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, which hinders readability. There is a very limited range of complex structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of complex sentences to add variety and sophistication to your writing.
