Student answer (Band 5.5)

In graph we see couple of changings in living life style of London. In range of shops there was a progress of 45% but, in the last two years there is reduction to 42% . After this we see that with the time period there was a huge reduction in job opportunities from 35% to 33% which is remained constant from the couple of years.

According to whole country population chart sheet we see that there was a huge reduction in the mixture of people from 34% to 32% in the third year but at the first and second year it was constant at 34%. In museums & art galleries we see a very high progression at 40%. And also in night life we also see a progressive ratio of 30% which means that their was a huge reduction in crimes. But, in transport there is a progression but, less than first year. And the best things to live in London is job opportunities, mixture of people and night life.

In second graph we see that there is reduction of cost of living in London and in crimes also in traffic congestion which is a great progress but, the worst thing was that there was a increase of cost of housing and reduction in transporting.

In third graph we see that there is minor reduction of people saying yes that noise is now a huge problem and also in air quality and there is huge reduction in litter which shows the progression of London.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response attempts to describe the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or identify key trends effectively. The description of the data is often inaccurate or confusing, such as claiming a 'huge reduction' in crime based on nightlife data, which is an incorrect interpretation of the provided charts. The report lacks a clear structure, failing to group the information logically. Furthermore, the response does not clearly distinguish between the different charts, leading to a disjointed presentation of the data. To improve, focus on identifying the most significant trends and providing a clear summary of the main features rather than listing individual data points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'in' or 'there is'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which chart or data point is being discussed. The transition between paragraphs is abrupt, and the overall structure lacks the cohesive flow required for higher bands. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'reduction', 'progression', and 'huge'. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'living life style' and 'mixture of people'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but the lack of precision often leads to inaccurate descriptions of the data. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline', and ensure collocations are used correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('in graph', 'in range of shops'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are poorly constructed, which occasionally impedes the reader's understanding. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty or contain errors that distract from the message. The punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, correct use of articles, and ensuring that verb tenses are used consistently when describing data trends.
