Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the three visual prompts provided. However, the description is largely superficial and lacks a clear overview or summary of the key trends. While the student identifies some categories, the data is not presented with sufficient precision; for instance, there is no mention of specific figures or clear comparisons between the years. The description of the line graph is particularly vague, failing to clearly distinguish between the three categories (air quality, litter, noise) and their specific trajectories over the three-year period. To improve, the student should focus on selecting key features and providing specific data points to support their descriptions rather than making general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate (e.g., 'In here two bar chart', 'Whereas for noise people vote was gradually decrease'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the connection between the data and the commentary. The use of linking words like 'Whereas' and 'On the other hand' is repetitive and does not always serve to create a logical flow between sentences. Improving the variety and accuracy of cohesive devices would significantly enhance the readability of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic phrasing such as 'reasons', 'people', and 'things'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'hight cost living' (high cost of living) and 'citizens are not to preferred live' (citizens do not prefer to live). The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe trends, opting for simple descriptions like 'increase' or 'decrease' without specifying the extent or nature of the change. To reach a higher band, the student needs to incorporate a wider range of academic vocabulary and improve their control over word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'two bar chart... shows'), article usage ('the bar chart of years of studies'), and sentence structure (e.g., 'the data shows that people voted for air quality was steady'). The student relies primarily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors in syntax and punctuation. The lack of control over basic grammar, such as verb tenses and pluralization, is a consistent issue throughout the text. A focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors is essential.
