Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the presentation is problematic. While you identify the key categories, the reporting of data is often confusing. For instance, listing percentages in a long string (e.g., '45%, 38%, 35%, 30%, 21%, 22%, 22%') without clear labels makes it difficult for the reader to follow which figure corresponds to which category. Furthermore, the analysis of the 'worst things' and 'major problems' is somewhat muddled, and the comparison between years is superficial. To improve, you should group data more logically and focus on highlighting significant trends or differences rather than simply listing raw numbers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'To conclude'). There are instances where referencing is unclear, such as 'Same happens with 2nd and 3rd year', which lacks precision. The flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing, making the overall structure feel somewhat repetitive and lacking in sophisticated logical development. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, focused topic would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors and repetitive phrasing, such as 'best things', 'worst things', and 'major problem'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'how many people things is this the major problem' and 'slightly up and down in the data'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more varied and precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal decline', rather than relying on informal or imprecise language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'two bar graph... gives information'), missing articles (e.g., 'in first year'), and awkward sentence construction (e.g., 'noise pollution had a same effect of 59% to 55%'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas in lists. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
