Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you attempt to describe the data, the report is underdeveloped and lacks sufficient detail. You mention several categories but fail to provide a clear overview or meaningful comparisons between the data points. The information is presented in a fragmented manner, and the lack of specific data points for many categories makes the report difficult to follow. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the main trends and include specific figures for all key features mentioned in the charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While you have attempted to use paragraphs, the internal structure of these paragraphs is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the text feel like a list of observations rather than a cohesive report. For example, phrases like 'furthermore' and 'moreover' are used, but they do not effectively connect the sentences. The absence of clear transitions between the description of the first graph and the second graph makes the overall flow disjointed. Improving your use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus will significantly enhance coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely on basic descriptors such as 'peak', 'decline', and 'show', which are used repeatedly without variation. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'percen', 'gallery's', 'coat of living', 'flactuation', and 'subsequant', which distract the reader. The vocabulary used is often imprecise, such as 'the data has been calibrated in percentage', which is not a standard way to describe graph data. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms for trends and ensure accurate spelling of technical terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede readability. There is a lack of punctuation, particularly full stops, which leads to run-on sentences. Many sentences are missing articles (e.g., 'range of shops was on peak') and have incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'it decline slightly'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is little evidence of complex sentence construction. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
