Student answer (Band 5.0)

The bar charts and line graph illustrate the results of survey conducted over a three-year period to discover what people who live in London think of the city.

At first, there are huge number of things which makes easy to lives in London. When people thinks about the best things of living in London, here comes the range of shops, better job opportunities, see mixture of people, get museums and art galleries for enjoyment, enjoy night life and transport facilities as well.

According to the bar charts, it also illustrate the percentage of things for better understanding of best side of living in London. Firstly, if the topic is about range of shops, which were above than 40 percentage in the Year 1. Though it was slightly decrease in Year 2 and again slightly increased in Year 3. For the transport facilities, in the Year 1 and 3, it seems like same but in the Year 2 it was slightly decrease.

Now the topic is about the worst things about living in London. As London is a developed country, so the living coast and other related coast with the living is high expensive as well. As it is's a developed country, so every year people are moving to this country for better life. As a result traffic congestion and crimes are increasing as well.

From the charts, it clearly illustrate that the coast of living was almost near about 60 percent in Year 1 but in Year 2 and 3 it was decrease and almost close with each other. The main problem is traffic according to the bar charts. It was almost 60 percent in the Year 1 and 2. But it was decrease in Year 3.

In Year 1, another headache was crime rate. It was almost 60 percent. But in Year 2 and 3 it was reduce and the rate was less than 40 percent. Other worst things like coast of housing and transports were not that much in Year 1. The coast of housing was slightly same in three-years. The transport was decrease in Year 2 and 3 than year 1.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The report covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is often descriptive rather than analytical. You have identified some trends, such as the fluctuations in shop ranges and the decline in crime rates, but the data interpretation is inconsistent. For instance, you mention 'almost 60 percent' for several categories in Year 1, which lacks precision. Furthermore, the report includes irrelevant information, such as stating London is a 'developed country,' which is not part of the data provided. To improve, focus on comparing the data points more effectively and ensuring that every claim is directly supported by the figures in the charts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow between sentences is often disjointed. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'According to,' but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately. The transition between the 'best things' and 'worst things' sections is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is repetitive and lacks precision. You frequently use the word 'coast' instead of 'cost' and 'decrease' as a verb where a noun or different tense is required. There is also a reliance on basic phrasing, such as 'huge number of things' and 'best side of living.' To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' or 'a significant proportion,' and ensure correct word choice and spelling throughout.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people thinks,' 'charts... illustrate'), incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'it was decrease'), and misuse of articles. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at more complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'which were above than 40 percentage.' To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage, before attempting more complex structures. Proofreading for common errors like 'it is's' would also be beneficial.
