Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify key trends, such as the popularity of shopping and the decline in crime rates, the report lacks a clear overview of the data as a whole. The introduction is brief and contains grammatical errors that make it slightly difficult to follow. Furthermore, the data reporting is inconsistent; for instance, you mention 'above 40%' for shopping but do not provide specific comparative data for other categories to support your claims. To improve, ensure you group information logically and provide more precise data points to support your descriptions of trends over the three-year period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'in 3 years' or 'over 3 years'. Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be improved. For example, the transition from discussing shopping to night parties feels disconnected. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data analysis.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'very high', 'huge problem', and 'bit'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'surving there' (living there) and 'living expences' (living expenses). To improve, you should aim to use more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a significant decline'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid the repetitive phrasing observed throughout the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('The bar charts illustrates', 'cost of living have been') and missing articles ('is the huge problem'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper spacing after commas or periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of articles and verb tenses.
