What are the best things about living in London?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Well the bar charts below illustrates the cost of living ,the best thing living in London and of course the major things that are are problem .

The best thing about living in London we can see there is a wide range of shops which job opportunities, and a mixture of people which had the highest in year one , followed by night life and transport which was about 20 percent the the first-year however there was a drop in the number of shops due to high cost of living , traffic jams and crime rate and there was about 30 percent reduction in cost of housing and transport in year one probably because of litters which was a major problem in year one Followed by air quantity and noise .

In addition in year two we can there was still a rise in the shops ,job opportunities and mixture of people which is a good thing living in London without which indicates there is no racism ,the cost of living went down from 60 to 50 percent

Followed ,in year three there was still an increase in the range of shops ,jobs opportunities, mixture of people and museums and art galleries and night life transport were at 20 percent. Furthermore the high cost of living in the third year continued , followed by traffic congestion ,crime rate ,cost of housing and transport, there was a decrease of litter, air quantity and noise in year three which makes London a better place for living.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to describe the provided charts but fails to clearly distinguish between the different data sets (bar charts vs. line graph). The overview is missing, and the information is presented in a somewhat disorganized manner, making it difficult to follow the trends. While some data points are mentioned, the analysis is often inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that 'cost of living went down from 60 to 50 percent' without clear context. To improve, you must provide a clear overview of the main trends and ensure that the data is accurately reported and grouped logically rather than listing figures in a stream-of-consciousness style.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. The introduction is poorly phrased, and the body paragraphs are not logically organized. There is a lack of effective cohesive devices; the transition between ideas is often abrupt or repetitive (e.g., 'Followed, in year three...'). Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate different aspects of the data. To improve, use clear topic sentences for each paragraph and a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'furthermore', 'consequently') to guide the reader through the information more smoothly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and incorrect word choices, such as 'air quantity' (likely meaning 'air quality') and 'litters' (which should be 'litter'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately, relying heavily on basic descriptors. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing data, such as 'a significant increase', 'remained stable', or 'fluctuated', and ensure you use the correct terminology for the data presented in the charts.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the bar charts below illustrates'), run-on sentences, and incorrect punctuation. The sentence structures are mostly simple or poorly constructed complex sentences. There is a lack of control over articles and prepositions. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and proofread your work to correct common errors in tense and pluralization.
