Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify key trends, such as the range of shops being the most popular, the report lacks a clear overview of the data as a whole. The introduction is slightly confusing, as it mentions 'worst things' and 'major problems,' which are not present in the provided chart. To improve, ensure you focus strictly on the data provided and provide a more analytical summary of the trends rather than just listing percentages. Some data points, such as the 'mixture of people' category, are described as having 'same interest' without clearly referencing the specific percentages or the stability of the trend.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'The same changed was witnessed' is grammatically awkward and acts as a weak transition. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition from the shops to other categories feels abrupt. Using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Consequently') would improve the flow. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track which data point is being discussed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic verbs like 'grows,' 'declined,' and 'changed.' There are also noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'Londons have same interest' (referring to residents) and 'twice figure share,' which is unclear. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated,' 'remained stable,' or 'accounted for a significant proportion.' Some phrasing is repetitive, and the lack of sophisticated collocations limits the overall impact of the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'The given bar chart and line chart illustrates' (subject-verb agreement error), 'The same changed was witnessed' (incorrect word form), and 'Londons have same interest' (incorrect noun usage). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing articles and incorrect spacing around commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
