Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response fails to address the task requirements. The prompt asks for a report describing the information presented in the bar charts and line graph. Instead, the student provides a subjective, anecdotal commentary about living in London, completely ignoring the data provided. There is no mention of the survey results, trends, or specific categories shown in the charts. Consequently, the response is off-topic and does not fulfill the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report, which necessitates an objective summary of visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The response lacks logical organization. While there is a division into two paragraphs, the ideas within them are presented as a list of disjointed sentences rather than a coherent report. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, and the progression of information is absent. The writing feels like a collection of random thoughts rather than a structured analysis of data. The lack of an introduction or a clear overview further hinders the flow of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies heavily on basic adjectives like 'expensive' and 'best', which are used repeatedly throughout the text. There is no attempt to use academic or topic-specific vocabulary related to describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'proportion'. Spelling errors, such as 'begingham' for Buckingham, also detract from the quality of the writing. The range is insufficient to convey complex information effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is characterized by frequent errors that often impede clarity. There are significant issues with sentence structure, such as run-on sentences and comma splices (e.g., 'In London, there are many job opportunities and you can easily get job in London'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. The response lacks complex sentence structures, relying almost exclusively on simple, repetitive patterns. Punctuation is also used incorrectly throughout the text, making it difficult to follow the intended meaning.
