Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the data, but the analysis is incomplete. You failed to include data for the final category (transport) and did not provide a concluding summary of the trends. While you identified the highest category (range of shops) and noted some fluctuations, the description of the data is somewhat mechanical. To improve, ensure you cover all categories presented in the visual and provide a clear overview that highlights the most significant trends or differences across the three-year period. The report lacks a cohesive summary of the overall findings, which is essential for a high band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between sentences is often disjointed. You rely on simple transitions like 'If we take a look to', which feels repetitive and unnatural. There is a lack of sophisticated cohesive devices to link ideas effectively. For instance, the transition between the description of job opportunities and museums is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', 'Conversely') to guide the reader through the data more smoothly. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus to improve the overall logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You frequently use basic verbs like 'shown', 'started', and 'increased'. There is also some awkward phrasing, such as 'best things to do for living in London' instead of 'best aspects of living in London'. To achieve a higher band, incorporate more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'experienced a marginal decline', or 'peaked'. Avoid repeating the same sentence structures and vocabulary choices throughout the report to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('the London'), prepositional errors ('at the 38%'), and awkward sentence construction ('the museum and art galleries record of percentage has been started'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often inaccurate or poorly punctuated. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Practice writing sentences that combine data points using relative clauses or participle phrases to increase your grammatical range while maintaining accuracy. Proofreading for basic errors in tense and word order is also highly recommended.
