Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is significantly under-length at 125 words. Furthermore, the response is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence. While the introduction and overview attempt to cover the main trends, the body paragraphs are underdeveloped and fail to provide a comprehensive analysis of all the data presented in the charts. Because the response is unfinished and lacks sufficient detail to fully address the task, it cannot be awarded a higher band. To improve, you must ensure you complete the report and provide a more thorough breakdown of the data points across all categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a basic logical structure with an introduction, an overview, and the start of a body paragraph. However, the abrupt ending severely impacts the overall coherence. Cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way, such as 'Overall' and 'Meanwhile'. The progression of ideas is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly and ensure that each paragraph is fully developed before moving on to the next point.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite repetitive and limited. Phrases like 'higher percentage' are used multiple times, which restricts the range of expression. There are also some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'range of shops have higher percentage' instead of 'a higher percentage'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'predominant', 'significant', or 'fluctuated', and avoid repeating the same sentence structures and word choices throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'according to their citizens' (should be 'according to citizens') and 'over the period of three years' (should be 'over a three-year period'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete sentence at the end is a major issue. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Ensure that you proofread your work to avoid unfinished sentences, which significantly detract from the overall accuracy of your writing.
