What are the best things about living in London?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
London has changed alot not in decade but in 3 years. A survey was conducted over a three-year period to discover what the residents of London think about their own city. The results provide infriguiding figures that are worth looking at.
The best thing about London include's the range of shops, job oppportunities museums and art galleries. London has people of various ethnicies that come from different backgrounds. london also has a great transport facility and the night life is one of the bests. These things are mostly consistest in the tree days when the study was conducted and they are in a declining fashion.
Things that are not on the greater end of the spectrum are cost of living, the traffic congsestion, crime, increasing cost of housing and the transport. The transport is improving but there are other major problems that needs attention. The greatest problem would be the littering which was at its high in the second year. This also has affected the air quality which is second in our list. Noise is also an increasing problem which needs immediate attention

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the charts regarding London, covering the best and worst aspects as well as the problems. However, the data presentation is extremely vague and lacks specific figures or accurate descriptions of the trends. Phrases like 'mostly consistest in the tree days' and 'declining fashion' show a poor attempt to synthesize the data provided in the prompt. Furthermore, the report misinterprets several key trends; for instance, the text claims things are 'in a declining fashion' when many categories fluctuate or remain relatively stable. The overview is weak, and important data points from the graphs are omitted or incorrectly represented, which aligns the response with a Band 5 descriptor for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into short paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall cohesion are quite weak. Transitions between sentences feel abrupt, and cohesive devices are either misused or absent. For instance, moving from the best things to the worst things lacks a clear signposting phrase. Additionally, referencing is frequently unclear, as seen in sentences like 'These things are mostly consistest...' where the antecedent is ambiguous. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks unity and clear progression, preventing the text from achieving a higher band score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text. Examples of spelling errors include 'alot', 'infriguiding' (intended to be intriguing), 'oppportunities', 'ethnicies', 'consigest' (consistent), and 'congsestion'. While the student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'ethnicies' and 'spectrum', the high frequency of spelling mistakes and lexical inaccuracies ('the greatest problem would be the littering') causes some difficulty for the reader and restricts the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is low. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'The best thing about London include's' (incorrect apostrophe and singular verb with plural list), 'london also has' (capitalization error), and 'problems that needs attention' (singular verb with plural noun). Punctuation is also neglected in places, such as missing periods at the ends of paragraphs. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause strain for the reader, the grammar performance sits firmly at Band 5.
