Student answer (Band 4.5)

so here is the chart which shows about how the london is good and bad and what people thing about it . so if you came the london the very first year you get so many job opportunities which is very good for any new person who came. along with that here you can get the biggest shops market so that thing also you will like the most here. as that is the first year so that get so many new things so they see the markets expore the new things and also with that there are get to know about so many things and there were you to about the new city the like the transport of the city the met new people and they are getting to know about there lifestyle and how thay are living there. as this is a a first year so thay do not have more frieds and also feel homeskiness so thay do not go out side to live the night life maybe thay feel uncomfortagle but it gets good after the time passed. as this every coin has a two sides so there are also so many things that people don't like about london as i said when you came to new city you try new things expore the city also with the great shops rangs you see so many new things and you don't resiste you self to buy the new things so becasue of that your cost of living is getting so high on the first year maybe becase you are not use to of that.also when you came are new so you don't know about the peoples so you trusts the people easily and got scamed and also you are new to so some bed people are try to stile your things so you are not awayer about the peoples so may you feel more crime but over the time when you know about the things it became less

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response attempts to describe the visual data regarding living in London, but it fails to adopt an appropriate academic report style, instead reading like an informal personal narrative or blog post ("so here is the chart which shows about how the london is good and bad"). Furthermore, the student misinterprets parts of the charts by inventing qualitative justifications not present in the data, such as assuming people get scammed because they are new or suffer from homesickness. Key features from the charts (such as exact percentages or overall comparative trends) are not reported systematically. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a band score of 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The text lacks proper paragraphing entirely, appearing as two massive, unbroken blocks of text. The organisational structure is heavily flawed; there is no clear introduction, body, or conclusion appropriate for an academic report. Cohesive devices are either missing or overly repetitive and conversational, relying heavily on informal connectors like "so", "as", and "also with that". There is no clear overall progression of ideas, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical flow of data comparison. This falls squarely within the Band 4 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic, repetitive, and informal. The student frequently uses conversational fillers and elementary terms (e.g., "good", "bad", "things", "new people"). There are numerous spelling errors and awkward word formations throughout the text, including "expore" for explore, "rangs" for ranges, "resiste" for resist, "becase" for because, "awayer" for aware, and "uncomfortagle" for uncomfortable. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey a very basic personal meaning, it falls short of the precision and range required for an academic task, leading to a score of 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited. The text consists almost entirely of long, run-on sentences joined by coordinating conjunctions like "and" and "so", lacking proper punctuation such as periods or capital letters. There are frequent, pervasive grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ("this every coin has a two sides"), tense inconsistencies, and faulty clause structures (e.g., "if you came the london the very first year you get so many job opportunities"). These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and distort meaning at times, supporting a band score of 4.0.
